OUR STORY

The origin of os1515 Downtown

In 1699, French explorers led by Pierre LeMoyne Sieur d’Iberville arrived on the pristine shores of Ocean Springs tasked with establishing a Catholic colony. They soon sent forth exploration parties to found settlements in the areas now known as New Orleans, Louisiana and Mobile, Alabama. Our town is now aptly dubbed the “City of Discovery” in the tradition of those adventurous men and women who first arrived to discover a new world. Our Iberville building showcases New Orleans inspired architecture in honor of our local French heritage.

In May of 1950, E.R. Moore Company of Chicago opened a new manufacturing facility on Government Street. Forward thinking for its time, the garment factory offered workers the ability to be compensated by the piece rather than working dedicated shifts. This concept allowed flexibility for women to accommodate a family schedule and earn an independent income in the Post-War Era. Eventually operating as American Industry Swingster, the facility ceased operations in January of 2002. The structure remained vacant until it was repurposed to house thousands of volunteers restoring the Hurricane Katrina ravaged homes of local residents.

The architectural design of our Warehouse building pays homage to those trailblazers that made such a positive contribution to our city. We are proud to continue a tradition of innovation that began exactly 75 years after its initial institution on this very site. This building is home to Crave Food Hall which features a revolutionary business model supporting eight small business vendors.

In the 19th century many visitors were attracted to our area’s mineral springs believing them to possess medicinal properties. Hotels were soon being erected to accommodate the influx of visitors, establishing the area as a tourist destination. The most famous of these hotels was the 34 room Ocean Springs Hotel built in 1853 accommodating 150 guests. This establishment became the namesake of our city.

Reminiscent of this history of southern hospitality, OS Hotel features 32 guest rooms offering a respite from travel and a site for relaxation and restoration. The contemporary architecture of this building looks forward to our city’s promising future. We are honored to usher in a new age of luxury accommodations hosting visitors to discover our charming town.
